The Centennial Future Business Leaders of America organization attended their annual State Leadership Conference in Omaha, April 2-4th. The conference brought together approximately 1500 high school students from across the state to compete in various categories that test business aptitude.
Twenty-four Centennial students attended the conference and together brought home the SLC Sweepstakes Award. To receive this award the students, as a whole, must complete various tasks throughout the year that show leadership and dedication to FBLA. Liz Crabtree, Centennial’s FBLA sponsor said, “The sweepstakes award shows how hard the members of the organization has worked all year long. I am just so proud of all they have done.”
Nine members came home from the 2009 State Leadership Conference with eleven awards. Earning the highest individual award for the Centennial organization was sophomore Kay Kolts who placed first out of 453 participants in Introduction to Business. The first place finish guarantees Kolts a trip to the national convention held in Anaheim, California, this June. Kolts also received an Honorable Mention in Introduction to Technology Concepts.
Senior Travis Arnold received 4th place (out of 599 participants) in Personal Finance, as well as Honorable Mentions in the categories of Business Calculations, Marketing, and Economics. Breanna Wolfe, also a senior, received Honorable Mention in Business Calculations. Additional Centennial students receiving Honorable Mention were junior Taylor Barth in Business Procedures, sophomore Rebecca Brauer in Introduction to Technology Concepts and Business Math, and sophomore Logan Kellogg in Introduction to Business Communication.
Liz Crabtree, Centennial’s FBLA sponsor, commented, “All the students who competed at SLC this year have made great strides since last year’s competition. I am very proud of Kay’s and Travis’ performances and hard work.”
