Speech Team Preparing for Competition

The 2009 Bronco Speech Team continues to spend many hours preparing and polishing competition material.

            Since December, eight high-schoolers have been busy finding topics, cutting excerpts from plays, poetry, and novels, writing and memorizing speeches, and creating visual aides.  On average, most team members practice for 30 minutes, twice to three times each week, for each event.  In other words, being on the Speech Team promises hours of hard work and practice, not unlike other extracurricular activities. 

            This year’s team members and their events include:  Seniors – Katie Brauer (Serious Prose), Samantha Pavel (Informative and Oral Interpretation of Drama); Sophomores – Becky Brauer (Poetry and Oral Interpretation of Drama), Sarah Pavel (Serious Prose and Oral Interpretation of Drama), Cassidy Leif (Duet Acting), and Kaylee Stutzman (Duet Acting); Freshmen – Emily Anderson (Oral Interpretation of Drama) and Cameron Pfeifer (Oral Interpretation of Drama).  

            The team will be competing at the David City Invitational on February 14 and the Milford Invitational on February 21.  Centennial hosts the Southern Nebraska Conference meet on February 28, and Districts are scheduled March 3 at Fillmore Central.
