National Mentoring Month
January 13, 2010
BOSTON, MA --General Colin L. Powell will headline the Ninth Annual National Mentoring Month volunteer recruitment drive. Held each January, the campaign mobilizes community volunteers to help young people achieve their potential. This year's theme is "Expand Your Universe. Mentor a Child."
Many Americans will reach out to thank or honor those individuals who encouraged and guided them, and had a lasting impact on their lives. As a highlight of National Mentoring Month 2010, Thank Your Mentor Day will be celebrated on January 21. Thank Your Mentor Day promotes "Four Ways to Honor Your Mentor":
1) contact your mentor to express your appreciation
2) Pass on what you received by becoming a mentor to a young person in your community
3) Make a financial contribution to a local mentoring program
4) Write a tribute to your mentor
The Centennial TeamMates program will recognize each mentor/mentee match on January 29th during the Thayer Central basketball games. We would like to recognize our current mentors. They are Colin Bargen, Jen Bargen, Bruce Borchers, Lorraine Buller, Carrie Gumaer, Linda Hirschfeld, Lana Hoffschneider, Josh Lanik, Cheri Stahr and Christie Tomes. We also have mentors who are still waiting for a mentee. They are Barb Barth, Amy Haberman, Megan Hammer, Bob Hoback, Marge Rhodes, Joyce Schriner and Adelle Tonniges. THANK YOU for volunteering your time to our mentees. You are making a difference and it is greatly appreciated. Our program wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for your dedication.
Also during National Mentoring Month, the Centennial Program will focus on recruiting mentors, advertising and gaining support from the community. If you are interested in donating to our program either by volunteering your time or giving a monetary donation please contact our coordinator, Marge Rhodes. You may also contact an advisory board member. They are Joyce Schriner, President; Jennifer Bargen, Vice-President; Megan Hammer, Secretary; Pamela George, Treasurer; Lana Hoffschneider, member; Tony Conell, member; Bruce Borchers member, and Kathy Heine, member. Any monetary donation will go towards our scholarship fund and/or activities for our mentees and mentors.
