Red Ribbon Week

November 05, 2009

Beginning Oct. 22 and continuing through Oct. 30, the elementary celebrated Red Ribbon Week. The theme for the week was ‘PAWS-itively We’re Drug Free’. The National Guard gave presentations reminding the students of how harmful drugs are to our bodies.  The theme continued when the sheriff’s department brought their drug dog to each classroom to show the students how drug dogs can keep us safe from drugs.   Using drugs and alcohol can and does kill people.  Using drugs is a dead end.  We hope the students will say ‘NO’ to drugs and alcohol.  We want them to do their best and be their best.

Day to day themes provided an opportunity for the students to dress up according to the theme.  The different themes were ‘Drugs Give You the Blues’ (wear blue); ‘Drugs Are Ridiculous’ (wear crazy outfits); ‘Stay in the Game – Be Drug Free’ (wear athletic gear); and ‘Red Day’ (wear red).

The week culminated on Friday with ‘Red Ribbon’ parties and a balloon release on the football field.  Many parents helped that day with filling the balloons with helium, as well as Bronco Buddies helping in the classroom.
