FORMED:
School districts of Beaver Crossing, Utica and Waco merged in 1967 (Thayer merged with Waco earlier). The school district of Gresham and part of the Cordova district joined in 1986.
SIZE:
Approximately 316 square miles located primarily in eastern York and western Seward counties. Some parcels of land from Butler and Polk counties are also in our district.

Pre-K - 12 District at Utica. All students under one roof!

FACILITIES:
A 100,000 square foot school was built on a 40 acre site at Utica in 1977. A 3,840 square foot weight room/wrestling practice area was added in 1988. A 12,000 square foot elementary addition was added in 1992. A 7,650 square foot secondary addition (three classrooms and a girls locker room) was added in 1997. A 22,000 square foot auditorium addition will finish up this spring. Two auxiliary buildings are located in Utica and a bus barn in Beaver Crossing.

CURRICULUM:
K - 6: A basic sequential curriculum is provided in mathematics, science and social studies. Language arts is offered through flexible grouping in two core programs during a 90 minute reading block and a 45 minute language block. Music, art, physical education and a gifted program are also offered. The above is supplemented with worthwhile learning activities that include field trips, assemblies, special education services and Title I.
7 - 8: Course offerings include science, social studies, math, health, physical education, art, reading, English, introduction to home economics, intro to ind. tech., general business, vocal music, band, a gifted program (PAT). Students participate in an area mathematics competition at York plus a MATHCOUNTS competition where the more successful students may advance to regional, state and national levels. A special education program is also provided.
9 - 12: A comprehensive curriculum includes the following: business education, driver education (summer only), English, fine/performing arts (art, band, vocal music), Spanish, family and consumer science (home economics), industrial technology, computers, mathematics, physical education, science, social studies, gifted education, special education, and vocational education. We offer AP classes in calculus, English and biology.
Our students have experienced much success in a host of various academic competitions at the local, state, regional and national levels.
ORGANIZATIONS/ACTIVITIES (7-12):
Student organizations/activities include Quiz Bowl, Model Bridge Builders, C-Club, Concert Band, Stage Band, Dance Team, Drama, FCA, FFA, FCCLA, FBLA, NHS, Pep Band, Student Council, Show Choir, and Yearbook.
ATHLETICS (7-12):
We offer football, volleyball, cross country for boys and girls, boys and girls basketball, wrestling, softball, and boys and girls track.

Six members; three are elected every two years for four-year terms.

We provide limited paraprofessional help to our elementary teachers, resource teachers, Title 1 teachers and the media specialist.
FOOD SERVICE 7
Class A type hot lunches are prepared daily. A salad bar is offered each Tuesday and Thursday.
HEALTH SERVICES 1
A full-time R.N. is employed to provide the many varied health services necessary for all students.
MAINTENANCE SERVICES 6
This staff works to keep our buildings clean and in good repair. Preventive safety measures are taken in the buildings and on the school grounds.
SECRETARIES/BOOKKEEPER 6
These people perform a variety of functions ranging from serving as receptionists, maintaining records, typing correspondence, selling lunch tickets, preparing the newsletter, reports, budgetary accounting, payroll, etc.
TRANSPORTATION 11
Eleven regular routes and two special education routes operate daily to transport an estimated 400 students.
SPECIAL NOTE: Not included in the above numbers are a host of substitute teachers and substitutes for various support staff members. Further, we have some volunteers who help with various activities throughout the year.
