FFA Successful at State Convention
April 17, 2009
The Centennial FFA had a successful week April 1-3rd at the State FFA Convention in Lincoln. Thirty-seven students participated and competed in several Leadership Skills Events, Career Development Events, and other award areas that represented Centennial well. The results are as following:
Brittany Leif was one of 13 finalists for State FFA Office; Melissa Winkelmann received a silver in Sr. Public Speaking; John Bader received a gold in Natural Resource Speaking; Sid Kment received a bronze in Job Interview; Shelby Luettel received a silver in Job Interview; Kendall Gierhan received a bronze in Creed Speaking; our Ag Demonstration Team that performed DNA Extraction received a bronze. Team members were Penny Blum, Melissa Sackschewsky, and Jherika Russell.
The Nursery & Landscape Team received a Superior Rating. Team members were Kelly Naber, Melissa Sackschewsky placed as a high individual, Rachel Rathjen, and Shelby Luettel.
The Floriculture Team received a Superior Rating. Team members were Kelly Naber, Shelby Luettel, Rachel Rathjen, and Angela Naber placed as a high individual.
The Welding Team also received a Superior Rating. Penny Blum competed in arc welding and placed as a high individual. Braylon Gierhan competed in MIG welding, and Tom Bader competed in O/A welding and placed as a high individual.
The Meats Team received an Excellent Rating. Team members include Jackie Ziemke who placed as a high individual; John Tonniges also placed as a high individual; Jessica Tonniges; and Kayla Crowder.
The Senior Livestock Judging team received a Superior Rating. Team members include Jessica Wiemer; Lindsey Kessler who placed as a high individual; Ashley Brahmsteadt; and Lacey Naber.
The Farm Business Management Team received an Excellent Rating. Team members include Tom Bader who placed as a high individual in the top 25; John Bader also placed as a high individual in the top 25; Sid Kment; and Melissa Winkelmann.
State FFA Degree Recipients were:
Melissa Winkelmann, Tom Bader, Penny Blum, Brittany Leif, Shelby Luettel, Kelly Naber, Lindsey Kessler
Tom Bader was a top 3 finalist in the Grain Production Proficiency Award Area. Tom also is a national winner in the Risk Management Essay Contest. Tom’s essay included the risks he takes being involved with production agriculture and his FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience program of farming 80 acres near Gresham. 10 essays were selected nationwide, so this is a tremendous honor! Tom and Miss Rasmussen will be traveling to Washington DC May 6-10th as a result of this award.
Centennial was also selected as a Top 13 Chapter in Nebraska, and will be competing at National FFA Convention next fall in Indianapolis, IN. Centennial also received a Gold rating in Safety Development & Community Development for the activities and events we host each year.
