Summer Driver Education
The 2009 Summer Driver Education course will begin Monday, June 1 and run through Friday, July 3. The fee this year, as set by the Board of education, is $175.00 per student, and payable before May 8.
The first organizational meeting will be held Friday, April 24, in the health room at Centennial beginning at 2:40 p.m. Students should be in attendance at the meeting as we will be setting up the driving sessions. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Swanson through the high school office.
Only one two-week classroom session will be offered this year based on enrollment numbers. The classroom session will be June 1 - June 12 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. each day. The State of Nebraska requires that ALL SESSIONS ARE MANDATORY.
The driving sessions will begin on June 1 also and should conclude by July 3. All students will receive a minimum of five hours of behind the wheel training with a final drive test. The classroom phase covers a 30-hour block of instruction. This means that the Centennial Driver Education program meets the State of Nebraska requirements of certification.
Nebraska state law requires that students must be at least 14 years of age in order to complete the Driver Education course. If students are 14 years old but cannot qualify for a Nebraska School Permit we strongly encourage them to wait until the next summer session so they may practice legally on a Nebraska Learner’s Permit at age 15.
