Centennial Sends Six to State Tournament

February 18, 2008

This weekend the Bronco Wrestlers drove east to Omaha for the State Wrestling Tournament. Six wrestlers from Centennial anxiously waited their arrival at the Qwest Center. At 103 pounds Jon Bader started off good with a first match win, later losing his next two matches. Bader finished the year with a 21-9 record. Shay Kratchovil experienced his first state tourney at 119 pounds and had two tough matches that ended his 27-13 year. Once again Tom Bader at 135 made his way to State and finished one better than last year at 2-2. Tom ended the year at 31-14. Breckin Coffey had an exciting tournament. He made it all the way to the end. An exciting last second takedown in the semi-finals sent him to the finals where he came up just short of a State title. The State Runner-Up ended the year with a 35-4 record.

Next was the two seniors Bradford Hernandez and David Egger, who made their first State Tourney appearance. At 160 Bradford lost his first two matches to tough competition. He ended the year with a 30-12 record. David Egger at 171 also lost his first two matches. He wrestled tough however coming just short of a first round win. David ended the year at 28-9. Overall the Centennial wrestling squad was very successful competing for tourney championships every weekend. Several trophies and plaques were brought back to Centennial, and this will be a team that will be remembered for years.
