Lady Broncos First Weekend Out
August 28, 2007
This past weekend the Lady Bronco softball team headed to Seward for there first Saturday tournament. They faced three respected class B teams. First on the list was Crete.
Crete was a tough team to face first and proved it when they scored a run in the first inning, but the Lady Broncos answered back. With strong defensive plays, good bats, and Kerra Grantski on the mound the game was for the Lady Broncos to take. The Lady Broncos won the game 9-4.
Next in the cards for the Lady Broncos was a tough Nebraska City team. The Lady Broncos started strong carrying the momentum over from their first game and was playing good. They got up on Nebraska City by six going into the final two innings, but Nebraska City never let down coming back on the Lady Broncos and tying the game, sending it into extra innings. To start off the 8th inning Nebraska City took the lead by one run, but once again the Lady Broncos kept their heads high and kept the bats swinging. Morgan Beckler stood on second and was looking to score with Danielle Mooney up to bat. Mooney hit a line drive to score Beckler and tie the game up once again. As Mooney advanced to second, Shelby Wieman was at the plate. Wieman hit a double into the outfield and advanced Mooney to third and Wieman on second. Grantski was then up and drove in two runs to win the game 9-8 in eight innings.
The toughest game of the day was the final game against Seward. Seward is a very strong team with very strong hitters. It was a hard game to finish out the day for the Broncos with a 9-1 loss but they walked out with their heads held high knowing that they played a good day of softball.
The lady Broncos are now 2-2 in their season and will face Aurora Tuesday at home at 5:00 and 6:30. Come out and support your Lady Broncos!
